Moving to a new city, let alone a new house is never easy for kids no matter what the circumstances. We moved multiple times growing up and not once was it easy. Looking back, it was wonderful to have the experience of living in different places but at the time it was horrible. Missing my friends, familiar surroundings and having to play with my siblings!
Small things can make a big difference to the child. We were fortunate enough to have a "watts line" so we could call our friends in another country and talk as long as we liked outside of business hours. Nowadays, the internet allows kids to keep in touch with their friends in many different ways making it much less traumatic.
Still, the house is different. We were allowed to re-arrange and redecorate our rooms when we moved. Decorating our bedrooms helped us adjust to a new bedroom giving it our own touches. Most of the time I shared a room with my sister but the last move was the ultimate. My own room!!
A customer contacted me looking for a gift for her nephews who upon moving will for the first time ever have their own rooms. She really wanted a personalized door sign for the kids but was having a hard time finding any she liked.
